Let the P. family live in safety – protection not deportation!

We call on the SEM to reconsider its decision and grant asylum in Switzerland to the P. family and their one-year-old baby from Sri Lanka. The planned transfer back to Romania – and with it the risk of deportation to Sri Lanka – must be stopped immediately.
Warum ist das wichtig?
Mrs. and Mr. P. fled the civil war in Sri Lanka seven years ago. They sought protection, but in Romania they found only misery, detention, and exclusion. Their asylum application was rejected, they were repeatedly imprisoned for “illegal residence”, and even when their child was born, they received no medical assistance.
To escape imminent deportation to Sri Lanka, the family fled to Switzerland in early 2025. However, the SEM rejected their asylum application stating that their procedure in Romania was still open, despite clear evidence proving otherwise.
Since then, the family has lived in fear. Two violent deportation attempts failed, with the police using excessive force during the most recent incident. Afterwards, the father attempted to take his own life.
If the family is returned to Romania, they face the risk of deportation to a country they once fled – Sri Lanka – where political imprisonment or even more severe consequences.
This family needs protection, not despair. A one-year-old child should be allowed to grow up in a secure and nurturing environment, not overshadowed by the threat of police violence and deportation. Switzerland must not turn a blind eye while those in its care are breaking down.
We appeal to the SEM and the Federal Administrative Court: Stop the deportation. Grant family P. asylum and with it the right to security, dignity, and a peaceful life.
