No accommodation of refugee children and their families in air raid shelters!

We urgently demand a reassessment of the accommodation of refugee children and families who are to be housed at the civil protection facility on Turnerstrasse, 8006 Zurich, from December 11, 2023. Instead, we demand child- and family-friendly accommodations for the 90 vulnerable and possibly traumatized children and mothers.

Why is this important?

On Tuesday 28.11.2023, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) announced that a temporary asylum center will be opened in the civil protection facility at Turnerstrasse, 8006 Zurich, on December 11, 2023 for a period of one year, in which 90 mothers and their children will be accommodated (Information from Tagesanzeigerunder Zurich/News-in-brief: “Temporäres Bundesasylzentrum in Zürich/Bund eröffnet Asylzentrum im Kreis 6”).

Housing children and their mothers in underground bunkers without daylight is not
suitable for children and families.

This petition is not directed against the accommodation of refugee children and their mothers/families in Zurich's District 6, but against the kind of accommodation.

We are calling for child- and family-friendly accommodation for vulnerable refugee children and their families throughout Switzerland.

Therefore, we ask that children and their families are not housed in underground bunkers or civil protection facilities – not even for a single day!

It is shameful that one of the richest countries in the world is not capable of a better solution.
